Living Vividly Habit Challenge September 2022

Always Good Enough

What does it mean to be good at something? Do you encourage yourself with a positive mindset? This month let’s practice reminding ourselves of all the things we do well, whether that’s excelling in a job or study, being kind to those around us, making art, paying attention when someone needs a friendly ear, or whatever it is you do well. Remember to compare yourself, if at all, to your own past efforts, and not to other people who try the same task or activity. There’s no need to be competitive to reward yourself with well-deserved praise. This challenge offers a chance to build emotional resilience and interpersonal connection.

Habit:

Notice something someone else did well, and give them a positive comment.

Daily:

Notice something you did well. Note it down as “I am good at x” or “I did a good job with y today”

To Do:

Choose a place to write positive comments to yourself and use it daily.

Listen to something uplifting, as a treat. Vitamin C – Ivory Layne

Reflection:

This challenge was incredibly powerful for me, and I think for some group members as well. I ended up exchanging positives with a friend over messaging rather than keeping a journal of all the ways that I’m good enough, and it was great to be able to trade accolades for accomplishments big and small. In the context of my ongoing struggle to release perfectionism, making space to acknowledge my many goodnesses and efforts felt really good. Also, I recommend the book Already Enough by Lisa Olivera. Hoping to do a little book review for y’all in a future post!
