Living Vividly Habit Challenge November 2021

Book Club!

Last month we explored our playful side, now it’s time to be studious. Let’s make time to read! Our goal for November is to read at least one non-fiction book of our choice, and report back to the Guild what we thought of it in a 3-5 sentence mini book review. Audiobooks are of course also fine for this challenge! (And feel free to read more than one book if you have the time and inclination.) This challenge offers a chance to build those mental muscles and indulge our curious minds.

Daily:

Spend 10-30 minutes reading or listening to the book of your choice!

To Do:

Choose a non-fiction book to read

Write a 3-5 sentence mini review about it

Reflection:

I’m a habitual reader, and no mistake. Inter-library loan at my local public library is my jam! But even I don’t always have the mental bandwidth to read to learn… and non-fiction is the focus here.

My book for November was The Body is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love, by Sonya Renee Taylor. Weighing in at only five chapters and 116 pages, this powerful, radical, intellectual and emotional dive into a vision of intersectional body celebration is dense in the way that good poetry is dense. Every part of it is essential, and vibrating with potential. I found while reading it, I instinctively breathed deeper, relaxed more, leaned in to having a body and thinking about our collective liberation. 10/10, absolutely recommended. I plan to buy myself a copy of both this book and the accompanying workbook. So glad I checked it out!
