Living Vividly Habit Challenge January 2016

Touch

Connecting with our senses is a powerful way to encourage ourselves to live in the moment. This month, the time has come to focus on our sense of touch. Texture, temperature, currents of air against the skin… there’s so much to explore and attend to in our sense of touch. This challenge offers a chance to reconnect with your senses–just one small part of building resilience: mind, heart, body and soul.

Habit:
Enjoy the way something feels (animal fur, a refreshing breeze, a warm mug of your favorite beverage)

Daily:
Take a moment to focus on touch

To Do:
Explore a variety of fabric textures (visit a clothing store, a craft store, or play in your own closet!)
Focus on sensing temperature
Share something you’ve noticed in the Living Vividly guild

Reflection:
What a fun challenge! I’m happy to be in touch with my senses in any case, but it’s always fun to have a reminder to focus on something specific. I particularly noticed how much pleasure I get out of my hand-painted silk scarf–so much so that I’m asking my sweetie for a second one in a different array of colors for Valentine’s Day! I have also noticed that the more mindful and awake in my senses I am in any given moment, the more likely I am to spend extra time touching things and noticing their textures. If I’m fidgeting with things in my hands, it’s generally a good sign that I’m engaged!
