Path to the Future
Every so often, it’s time to reassess how things are going. Thinking about your life’s direction and what you want to accomplish with your life doesn’t have to be nebulous or overwhelming, and once you’ve decided where you want your efforts to go, Habit can help you make sure you stick with it! There’s no time like to present to stop and think about the big picture. Are you putting your life’s energy into the things you really believe in? The things that make you the most happy? Now is a great moment to start bringing your actions in line with your beliefs. Some of you may have done this challenge last October with me, but I think it’s worth revisiting yearly.
This challenge is intended to strengthen your focus and direction, putting whatever resources and energy you have into what really matters to you.
To Do:
Make a list: what makes you happy? (Not just for a moment, but with a lasting sense of satisfaction and pleasure.)
Make a list: what do you need to do for yourself? (Self care: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual)
Make a list: what do you need to do for your friends, family, and community? (obligations, relationships, and opportunities for giving, loving, and sharing)
Make a list: what do you need to do for the future? (long term projects, life goals, things to accomplish for posterity or as a big ambition–you’ll want to break these into manageable first steps.)
Make sure at least one item from each of your four lists is a Habit, Daily, or To Do!
Reflection:
Revisiting my life goals a year later has been very productive. It feels less like a circling back and more like a spiraling upwards; returning to a similar space but building on what has come before. I’ve been able to get clearer than ever about what really matters to me and how I choose to spend my time.
