February 2015 Living Vividly Habit Challenge

Love and Connection

We are wired for connection. People are healthier, more resilient, and happier when they are able to surround themselves with people that they love–family, friends, romantic partners–and stay connected to this smaller community of hearts within the larger community. What can you do to cultivate connections in your life?

Habit:
Connect with someone you care about

Daily:
Do something kind

To Do:
Watch a TED talk about love or connection
Read a love poem (Rumi, Shakespeare)
Read a book about relationships or communication (recommended authors include Brene Brown, Harriet Lerner, John Gottman)
Share one of these (TED talk, poem, book recommendation) with someone you care about

Reflection:
The February challenge was both easy and fun for me–but I hoped to spread the gospel of building strong and healthy intimate relationships far and wide! My connections with the people I care about are one of the things that make my life worthwhile, and I acknowledge that this kind of social web doesn’t happen without effort. It’s important to spend a little time tending those connections, building intimacy, opening up, and even reading, watching, and listening to resources that can give us the tools to bring our best selves to our efforts to relate. Feel the love. ❤
