Finding Direction
Thinking about your life’s direction and what you want to accomplish with your time on this earth doesn’t have to be limited to the start of the new year, the span of a midlife crisis, or even the moment when you’re considering a new direction. In fact, there’s no time like to present to stop and think about the big picture. Are you putting your life’s energy into the things you really believe in? Or even the things that make you the most happy? Now is a great moment to start bringing your actions in line with your beliefs–and Habit is a great tool to help you get there!
Habit:
Think about the big picture
To Do:
Make a list: what makes you happy? (Not just for a moment, but with a lasting sense of satisfaction and pleasure.)
Make a list: what do you need to do for yourself? (Self care: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual)
Make a list: what do you need to do for your friends, family, and community? (obligations, relationships, and opportunities for giving, loving, and sharing)
Make a list: what do you need to do for the future? (long term projects, life goals, things to accomplish for posterity or as a big ambition–you may need a secondary list for the big items, breaking them into smaller, step-by-step plans.)
Turn at least one item from each of your four lists into a Habit, Daily, or To Do (If they’re not already part of your Habit!)
Reflection:
I have to admit, I developed this challenge because it was something I felt I needed to do for myself – and thought it would be fun to have other folks play along! I was glad to think about my own big picture and get my actions more in line with my big goals and values. I think it will be worth doing again every so often.
