Nature is abundant in these last few weeks before the frost. Early winter squashes and late heirloom tomatoes bump elbows in the barn when I pick up my farm share. My garden bursts with bumblebees, busy on the sedums and the sunflowers, humming in the weedy margins where the goldenrod and asters grow. And everywhere I turn, delicious wild foods, free for the foraging.
Anyone who knows me is well familiar with my love of food. Particularly local food. And free? You’ve just named my favorite price! So here’s to the Kousa dogwood, the autumn olive, the wild grapes that grace the air with their perfume.
Next week when the autumn equinox comes around, I am in JUST the mood to celebrate the harvest. Blessed be!
